The Artists

Lena von Goedeke portrait

Lena von Goedeke

I’m Lena von Goedeke, an artist living on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, where both land and community are in constant transformation.

Melt & Moraine began as a continuation of my known sculptural practice, but instead of casting glass or metal, I started shaping matter that melts. Each of my chocolate pieces carries a fragment of Svalbard´s life and landscape, a bitter yet sweet memory of pressure, erosion, and time passing.

Every sticky idea starts with wandering, collecting fossils, and reading the traces left by ice. I make the molds myself, cast by hand, and take my time, out of respect for the craft, the research, and the rhythm of this place. Nothing is rushed. It is a way to taste what disappears, to let the Arctic linger on the tongue just a little longer. Permanence was never really my thing.

The image is too blurred to discern any specific details or objects.

Mystery Man

Somewhere in the background there is a man writing spreadsheets. He keeps the chaos from drifting, counts what I forget to count, and sometimes sends an idea across the room. We do not talk much while working, but somehow things add up: usually over coffee, sometimes over chocolate.
